Sugared Lemons
  1. Slice lemons very thinly and lay in a shallow bowl
  2. Add the sugar and stir to coat the lemon slices.
  3. Cover and place in a cool location to sit, at least overnight
  1. Heat the oven to 180 degrees
  2. Rub the butter and flour together
  3. Add the egg, maple syrup and water and mix into a dough
  4. Form small individual round balls with the dough - about 10 dumplings
  5. Made a dent with your thumb in each (see image) and push in a few pistachio pieces. Repeat for each dumpling
  6. Place the dumplings into a casserole dish and add the ingredients for the sauce
  7. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes with the lid on.
  8. Remove from the oven, top with slices of sugared lemon and serve with cream or ice cream if desired.
To serve
  1. Spoon the sauce from the dish over the dumplings
  2. Add a few slices of the sugared lemon and served with cream or ice cream
If you can't be bothered, or don't have time to sugar the lemons you could substitute with lemon juice and add some sugar to the sauce instead.
