Mini Hamburgers-Sliders

Sliders

Home made mini burgers - sliders

These are perfect for entertaining a crowd as they can be assembled by the guests with the ingredients they enjoy.  I made them for Cuddles first birthday party.  They are fuss free and the children love them. This is the recipe my mum taught me for hamburgers.  It is the same recipe she cooked when I was growing up. The recipe is tried-and-true, friends and family always comment on how tasty they are when I make them.

Serves: 14 small burgers
Preparation time: 45 minutes (including 30 minutes resting time)
Cook time: Depends on cooking method – approximately 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of lean beef mince
  • 1 garlic clove finely chopped
  • 1 grated carrot
  • 1 egg whisked
  • 1 dash of Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup of bread crumbs
  • 1/4 teaspoon of fresh rosemary leaves
  • 4 sprigs of parsley finely chopped
  • 12 fresh oregano leaves finely choppped
  • salt and pepper to season
  • 1/3 cup of plain flour

To serve:

  • Fresh bread rolls to serve the amount of guests
  • Fresh salad ingredients (see Hints below for ideas)

Steps:

  1. In a bowl combine all of the hamburger ingredients, minus the flour
  2. Sprinkle the flour onto a plate or board
  3. Roll the mixture into small balls and dip into the flour to coat
  4. Put the shaped hamburgers into the fridge to rest for at least 30 minutes prior to cooking
  5. Prepare the fillings by slicing the rolls and cheese, tomato, washing the lettuce etc
  6. Cook on the BBQ or in an electric pan on both sides until cooked through (time will vary depending on your equipment)
Place burgers onto a serving dish and have rolls and fillings ready to assemble

Hints and Tips:

Some ideas for fillings are:
  • Egg
  • Cheese
  • Onion
  • Lettuce or similar greens
  • Beetroot
  • Tomato
  • Avocado
  • Grated carrot
  • Sprouts
I keep the ends of bread in the freezer and defrost and whizz them in a blender to make fresh bread crumbs as needed.
We like to eat our burgers served with Onion and Chilli Chutney, Beetroot Relish or home made tomato sauce.
